Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, and we know you might have questions. That’s why we’ve put together this FAQ to help you understand what to expect at Tenacity Psychological Health Services. From how therapy works to practical details like costs and scheduling, we’re here to provide clarity and support.
What makes us different from other therapy providers?
At Tenacity Psychological Health Services, we go beyond traditional talk therapy. We use evidence-based psychological tools and assessments to help you track your progress and demonstrate meaningful outcomes—particularly helpful if you’re involved in legal, educational, or insurance processes. If you would like psychological assessment to be part of your treatment plan, please let your clinician know!
Our team is made up of highly trained, specialized clinicians, and we take the time to match you with a therapist who aligns with your needs, goals, and preferences. We believe therapy should feel like a good fit, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
We also value transparency: if there’s ever a need to involve another party (such as an authority for safety concerns), we follow a strict transparency policy—we will never make those calls without your knowledge.
In addition to therapy, we offer a wide range of psychological assessments, including those for school accommodations, diagnostic clarification, legal matters, and more.
Finally, we understand that life can be unpredictable. That’s why we offer a flexible schedule and a cancellation policy that reflects real-life challenges, so you can prioritize your well-being without added stress.
The first session is focused on getting to know you. We’ll discuss what brought you to therapy, explore your goals, and start to understand your history. It’s also a chance for you to ask questions and see if you feel comfortable with the process.
Sessions are typically 50 minutes. The frequency depends on your needs—some clients start weekly, while others come bi-weekly or as needed. This will be discussed collaboratively.
No referral is needed. You can self-refer by contacting us directly—whether you’re seeking support after a motor vehicle accident, struggling with anxiety, or just wanting to check in on your mental health.
That’s okay. Many people feel unsure at first. Your therapist will gently guide the conversation in a way that feels natural and safe.
Yes. What you share in therapy is confidential, with a few exceptions related to safety (e.g., risk of harm to self or others, or legal obligations such as child protection). These limits will be clearly explained during your first session.
You may notice subtle shifts in how you think, feel, or respond to situations. We’ll check in regularly about your goals and progress so that therapy stays meaningful and effective for you. We also offer therapeutic assessment to help monitor and track progress!
Our fees are outlined here, and we offer direct billing to many extended health insurance providers. You’re responsible for any portion not covered. For motor vehicle accident (MVA) claims, we handle all billing and communication with your adjuster—there’s no cost to you for approved services.
Yes. We offer both in-person and secure online therapy, so you can choose what works best for your comfort and schedule.
That’s a valid concern. We strive to create a non-judgmental, respectful space. You are always in control of your therapy experience, and we welcome open conversations about what has or hasn’t worked for you in the past.
You can contact us directly via the contact us page. We’re happy to answer any questions and match you with the right support based on your needs.
Tenacity Psychological Health Services values your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. We collect personal data, including names, phone numbers, email addresses, addresses, payment details, and health information, through our secure, HIPAA-compliant software (Jane), our website forms, or direct communication. This data is used solely for service provision unless you opt into marketing emails. We do not share personal information with out consent to third parties unless required or permitted by law (e.g., in cases of risk to self or others, child protection concerns, or legal obligations). SMS consent or phone numbers collected for SMS purposes will not be shared under any circumstances for marketing purposes. Jane is a privacy-compliant practice management system that meets the requirements of applicable legislation, including HIPAA in the United States and PIPEDA in Canada. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and securely stored on servers located in Canada. Access to information within the platform is restricted based on user roles, and audit logs are maintained to ensure accountability. The platform also allows for secure messaging, encrypted telehealth sessions (which are not recorded), and the collection of electronic consent and intake forms. We take care to use only secure, privacy-respecting tools to protect your personal health information, and we encourage you to let us know if you have any questions about how your information is stored or shared.
At our practice, we understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise that may prevent you from attending a scheduled appointment. We kindly ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. This allows us to offer your time slot to another patient who may be in need of an appointment. We appreciate your flexibility with scheduling and in turn offer the same flexibility back. If we have availability to reschedule your appointment within the same week and without disrupting your next week’s session the cancelation fee will be waived. However, we have a strict policy that appointments that are missed or cancelled without 24 hours’ notice will be charged the full session fee. We believe that this policy is fair to both our clients and our practice, as it allows us to better serve our clients and maintain our schedule. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in adhering to our late policy.
In order to allow the appropriate time necessary for the therapeutic process, we ask that you try to make your appointments on time. We understand unforeseen circumstances happen so please call or message us if you expect to be late. However, we can only guarantee the appointment time that is scheduled due to our other client commitments. If clients attend within 15 minutes, the session will be provided for the remaining time and billed for the full fee. After 15 minutes we will consider your appointment a no-show which will incur the full charge.
